This trend is further widening the disparities across different regions of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Released in early June, the eighth edition of Out Leadership&#8217;s <em>State LGBTQ+ Business Climate Index<\/em> highlights this concerning trend. This global organization of executives and businesses supporting LGBTQ+ communities notes a continuous decline in the social, political, and legal climate surrounding sexual and gender minorities. According to their findings, this is the fourth consecutive year of regression.<\/p>\n<p>On an international scale, it&#8217;s also important to investigate <a href=\"https:\/\/boutique-lgbtqia.fr\/comment-les-droits-des-lgbt-evoluent-ils-dans-le-monde\/\">how LGBTQ+ rights are evolving worldwide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An Assessment Based on Five Key Indicators<\/h2>\n<p>The study evaluates all 50 U.S. states based on five primary dimensions: legal protections, family support, political and religious attitudes, access to healthcare, and workplace conditions. Each state is given a score out of 100 to assess its overall level of inclusion for LGBTQ+ people.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2026 ranking, the states with the lowest scores are Arkansas, Tennessee, Idaho, South Carolina, and Florida.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Increasingly Pronounced Polarization<\/h2>\n<p>While some states are strengthening their inclusive policies, others are enacting restrictive measures targeting LGBTQ+ communities. This trend is also observed at the federal level, as evidenced by <a href=\"https:\/\/boutique-lgbtqia.fr\/juge-retablissement-pages-supprimees-par-administration-trump\/\">certain decisions by the Trump administration regarding LGBTQ+ content and resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The gap between inclusive states and hostile states is greater than ever, and it continues to widen,&#8221; writes Todd Sears, CEO of Out Leadership, in the report&#8217;s introduction.<\/p>\n<p>Such polarization is evident in the surge of laws targeting transgender individuals, particularly concerning the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/boutique-lgbtqia.fr\/la-cour-supreme-donne-son-feu-vert-a-la-politique-de-passeports-anti-trans-de-trump\/\">recognition of gender identity and administrative rights of trans people<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to data from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), over 530 bills deemed anti-LGBTQ+ have been introduced in U.S. state legislatures since the beginning of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>This trend forms part of a broader rise in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/boutique-lgbtqia.fr\/rhetorique-anti-lgbtq-elections-2024\/\">anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric in American politics<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Florida at the Forefront of Conservative Shift<\/h2>\n<p>Among the lowest-rated states, Florida notably stands out. This shift has been marked by various <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/boutique-lgbtqia.fr\/loi-controversee-sur-lenseignement-des-questions-lgbti-a-lecole-en-floride\/\">restrictions on LGBTQ+ topics within schools<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Under Governor Ron DeSantis, several reforms have been enacted to restrict the teaching of topics related to sexual orientation and gender identity in schools. Other measures have also limited certain healthcare services for transgender youth and increased restrictions on drag performances.<\/p>\n<p>Similar policies have also emerged in Tennessee, Arkansas, and several states in the South and Midwest.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Growing Challenges for Businesses<\/h2>\n<p>Beyond civil rights issues, the report also examines the economic consequences of these developments. It aims to help businesses assess the risks associated with their operations in certain areas.<\/p>\n<p>The authors highlight that employers face increasing challenges when seeking to recruit, retain, or relocate LGBTQ+ employees in states where legal protections remain limited.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;International companies expose themselves to operational and reputational risks when conducting business in areas where the legal and social context makes it difficult for LGBTQ+ individuals to live openly,&#8221; the document emphasizes.<\/p>\n<p>This situation is now influencing decisions regarding investments, the location of regional offices, and recruitment strategies for many large American companies.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An Index Updated for New Political Realities<\/h2>\n<p>To better reflect the rapid changes occurring in the U.S., Out Leadership has expanded the scope of its index this year.<\/p>\n<p>The evaluation criteria now include several new issues, such as restroom access restrictions based on gender identity, bans on certain books in school libraries, regulations affecting drag shows, and governmental practices of inclusive data collection concerning LGBTQ+ individuals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If we had kept the index in its original form, we would be measuring a country that no longer exists,&#8221; the authors explain.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Most Inclusive States Continue Advancements<\/h2>\n<p>At the opposite end of the ranking, several states continue to solidify their achievements in inclusion. Massachusetts remains in the top spot, followed by New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Illinois.
