From February 28 to March 14, 2026<\/strong>, Montreal’s Gay Village will be transformed into an outdoor art exhibition thanks to Galerie des glaces<\/em>. This project features installations and projections showcasing local queer creativity. The event will take place in the windows of Espace + Village \u2014 a future LGBTQIA2S+ community and cultural hub \u2014 as well as Priape, bringing a fresh wave of artistic energy to Sainte-Catherine Street East, even during winter.<\/p>\n This initiative is part of the current LGBT events and queer activities<\/a> that aim to enhance the visibility of these communities worldwide.<\/p>\n Entirely free of charge, this initiative invites the public to experience artwork directly from the sidewalk. As night falls, vibrant video projections will punctuate the pathway alongside sculptures, photographs, print projects, and performances.<\/p>\n Visitors are encouraged to brave the cold and explore a range of creative expressions presented by Montreal’s queer artists from different generations.<\/p>\n The project is helmed by artist Daniel Barrow, known for his work in drawing, animation, and performance, and a long-time resident of the Village. He collaborated with curator, author, and researcher Jon Davies to design a series of ephemeral “pop-up” interventions.<\/p>\n Their goal: to take art beyond traditional institutional boundaries and root it in urban space and everyday life, creating a direct dialogue with passersby.<\/p>\n The core idea centers on repurposing commercial storefronts as dynamic cultural venues. Amid growing homophobia and transphobia, Galerie des glaces<\/em> aims to foster a new form of public engagement with 2SLGBTQIA+ artists’ works.<\/p>\n The event highlights the history, diversity, resilience, and creativity of Montreal’s queer communities. This approach aligns with the discussions developed in our section on LGBT news and contemporary community issues<\/a>.<\/p>\n Featured artists include Glenn Gear, Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez-Rosas, Nelson Henricks, Philippe Internoscia, lamathilde, Dayna McLeod, Johnny Forever Nawracaj, Aaron Pollard, Jo Reid S\u00e9vigny, Santiago Tamayo Soler, and Antoine Vogler.<\/p>\n The collective Pompom Palace Presents \u2014 comprised of Bernadette Houde and Amy Fung \u2014 also participates, along with Jenny Lin and Eloisa Aquino (B&D Press), and Jamie Ross and Esther Splett. Daniel Barrow and Walter Scott are responsible for the event’s official posters.<\/p>\n The video projections are scheduled for specific dates: Saturday, February 28, during Nuit Blanche, from 6 PM to 11 PM, and continuing on Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7 (from 6 PM to 11 PM), followed by March 13 and 14 (from 7 PM to 11 PM).<\/p>\n Additionally, several artworks will be on display during the day, with some accessible 24\/7 throughout the duration of the exhibition.<\/p>\n By investing in public spaces, Galerie des glaces<\/em> emphasizes the unifying role of art as a vehicle for dialogue and solidarity.
