Four Bodies Found in the Seine: Chilling Suspicions of a Homophobic Serial Killer in Choisy-le-Roi
Investigation Focuses on a Radicalized Suspect
The discovery of four male bodies in the Seine River in mid-August, near Choisy-le-Roi (Val-de-Marne), has led investigators to a 24-year-old suspect, Monji H., a Tunisian national. He reportedly entered France three years ago under a false Algerian identity. Authorities suspect he targeted his victims due to their actual or perceived sexual orientation. According to Le Parisien, Monji H. adheres to a form of radical Islam close to Salafism, which may have influenced his actions.
After being held in police custody for 96 hours during which he remained silent, Monji H. was formally charged with “multiple counts of murder” and placed in pretrial detention on Sunday, August 24. His lawyer, Antoine Ory, stated: “My client exercised his right to remain silent both during police custody and before the examining magistrate. He will provide his explanations during the judicial investigation.” A second person questioned in the case was released without charges.
The Victims: Varied Profiles, Apparent Connections
The Créteil prosecutor’s office identified the four victims as Frantz, a 48-year-old French man from Créteil; Sami, a 21-year-old Algerian living in Choisy-le-Roi; and two men without fixed addresses—Abdellah, also a 21-year-old Algerian, and Amir, a 26-year-old Tunisian. The bodies were found near a squat where Monji H. had been living for about eight months.
The first victim to be identified was Frantz, reported missing on August 11. Witnesses last saw him at a known cruising spot by the Seine in Choisy-le-Roi. Forensic evidence, including Monji H.’s DNA on the victim’s trousers and signs of strangulation, tied him to the case. Unidentified semen was also detected. Another body showed similar signs of violence and strangulation. The other two were in advanced stages of decomposition, making forensic analysis more difficult. Le Monde reported that two of the bodies, including that of Frantz, were discovered with their pants pulled down.
Compelling Physical and Digital Evidence
Investigators have uncovered direct links between Monji H. and the victims. Abdellah, who disappeared on July 26, had frequently visited a local Emmaüs shelter and had been photographed alongside the suspect. The day after his disappearance, Monji H. allegedly used his SIM card. Amir went missing five days later and reportedly shared the same squat. Charges are further supported by banking transactions made with Amir’s card, including purchases from a local butcher near the squat. SMS messages retrieved from Amir’s phone reveal an intimate tone, with him referring to Monji as “baby.”
Sami, the youngest of the victims, vanished on August 4. A friend recounted that their last phone call ended suddenly after Sami said, “Oh, sorry sir.” During a random search of the squat, authorities found both Sami’s and Abdellah’s identification documents in Monji H.’s possession.
