Ursula von der Leyen: A speech on the Union that omits LGBT rights
During her annual State of the Union address, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, touched on many topics, but failed to talk about the rights of LGBTQI+ people. Although the speech lasted an hour, double the expected time, she reviewed issues such as inflation, the integration of Romania and Bulgaria into the Schengen area, the war in Ukraine, ecology, artificial intelligence and asylum. However, she did not mention the rights of LGBTQI+ people, which are currently under threat in several European countries, including Hungary, Poland and Italy.
