Military Police Reopens Investigation into Canadian Army Facebook Group
The Canadian Military Police has reopened an investigation into a Facebook group known as “Blue Hackle Mafia,” whose content has been labeled as “deeply unacceptable” by Lieutenant-General Michael Wright, the head of the Canadian Army. General Wright described the group as “reprehensible” after receiving reports on June 25 linking the page to actively serving members of the armed forces.
Content in Violation of Military Values
According to an official statement, posts within the group reportedly feature “racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and antisemitic comments and imagery.” The issue was initially brought to the chain of command back in December 2024, sparking a preliminary review. However, due to the seriousness of the allegations, a formal investigation was re-launched on June 27 by military authorities.
Strong Condemnation from Military Leadership
Lieutenant-General Wright expressed being “disgusted by the content posted in this group,” emphasizing that such behavior stands in stark opposition to the ethical standards and core values upheld by the Canadian Army. He also underlined the importance of enforcing disciplinary and administrative measures to address this type of misconduct.
Potential Disciplinary Actions Under Review
While the investigation is still ongoing and few details have been made public, the high-ranking official reiterated that all members of the military are expected to “uphold the highest standards.” If any personnel are found to be involved in the group’s offensive activities, they may face disciplinary or administrative consequences.
