An Inclusive Association Changing the Queer Landscape
A new LGBTQIA+ initiative has been bringing fresh energy to the queer scene in Caen: Les Luron·ne·s LGBTQIA+. Founded on kindness and community, this young organization aims to create a safe, intergenerational, and inclusive space where everyone can fully express their identity and find genuine connection.
In a constantly evolving activist and celebratory landscape, Les Luron·ne·s offer a welcoming environment where people can recharge, share, and celebrate what makes them unique in a respectful and affirming atmosphere.
A Mission Rooted in Activism and Solidarity
Beyond lively events like queer meetups and socials, the association stands for clear and powerful values: fighting all forms of discrimination, supporting the most vulnerable, honoring the memory of persecuted individuals, and taking bold political stances grounded in antifascism, feminism, and anti-racism. These values are carried with passion by a committed team eager to energize the local LGBTQIA+ community in new ways.
From Grassroots Collective to Established Nonprofit
Initially launched as an informal collective in March 2025, the initiative evolved into a fully-fledged association by September of the same year. “Given the excitement and demand around our gatherings, formalizing as an association felt like a natural next step,” explain the founding members.
Shared Experiences at the Heart of Its Identity
The foundation of Les Luron·ne·s lies in powerful shared values: kindness, respect, tolerance, solidarity, and openness. These principles were shaped through common experiences within another local organization. “Our identity was built by listening to each other’s stories and ideas,” say co-founders Loïc, Neal, and Bri.
Creating Genuinely Safe Spaces
Whether hosting events at bars or collaborating with inclusive venues, Les Luron·ne·s prioritize the safety of their participants. “We reached out to multiple queer-friendly establishments, and the responses were overwhelmingly positive. This allows us to offer truly safe environments,” the volunteer team emphasizes.
One standout event featured performances by local drag queens, leaving a lasting impression: “The vibe was festive and caring—the kind of night that brings people together.”
Complementing the Local Queer Network
Although Caen already has an active queer community, Les Luron·ne·s LGBTQIA+ add something different. “Our work responds to a distinct need within the community. We’re not trying to replace existing efforts—we’re here to expand and diversify what’s available,” the team shares. “We move forward with humility, but carry real ambition.”
Bridging the Generational Divide
Intergenerational exchange is central to the group’s mission. “It’s crucial to build bridges between generations so younger people can learn from their elders,” say the members.
The board even includes a dedicated intergenerational representative—Aline—whose perspective is highly valued. Today, the group welcomes members across a broad age range, from 21 to 77, encouraging meaningful conversation and vibrant energy. “Everyone shares their stories during our gatherings—it creates something truly special between generations.”
Constant Vigilance Against Discrimination
Les Luron·ne·s stay alert to the challenges facing LGBTQIA+ communities, including those related to gender, sexuality, physical and mental health, and disability. “Our members come from all walks of life—students, professionals, retirees—which gives us a wider lens to understand the realities people face in Caen,” the volunteers note.
This vigilance is accompanied by a bold political voice. The group is highly active on social media and doesn’t hesitate to speak out on key social issues, always with clarity and conviction about their values.
Festive and Political Programming
With active communication through Instagram, email, and phone, Les Luron·ne·s continue to organize events to build community bonds. One major highlight: a big celebration scheduled for December 20, featuring Paris-based drag queen Lady Karamel, a close friend of the group. “All the event details are on our Instagram,” say the organizers.
Looking ahead, more events are already being planned for 2026, promising continued joy, connection, and pride.
Celebrating Pride Loud and Proud
Les Luron·ne·s carry a bold and affirmative message: “We are proud of our differences. They make us stronger.” The association will proudly take part in the next Caen Pride March in 2026, committed to representing the full spectrum of diversity with energy and determination.
