Experience a unique twist on the traditional fall carnival with the Heel Country Fair, a collaboration between Louisianna Purchase, Bubu, and the Little Gay Shop. This event will take place at the Far Out Lounge and Stage on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 10pm. Attendees can enjoy carnival games, food, arts and crafts exhibits, a petting zoo, vendors, and performances from over 30 local drag artists. The event will also feature DJ sets from various artists.
The idea for Heel Country originated from Bubu’s desire to have a local drag festival similar to those in other major cities. The event’s name is a playful take on a popular brand. Bubu’s inspiration also came from her childhood memories of local fairs, and she wanted to recreate that experience with a queer twist. Tickets are available online for $25, and the event is restricted to those 18 and older.
In addition, the Austin Eagle, a recent award winner, is hosting a leather-themed carnival. The weekend’s events center around the Mr. & Ms. Austin Eagle leather competition. Activities include a gear swap, meet & greet, cigar social, and various other events culminating in the leather contest on Sunday, Sept. 17. More details can be found on their website.
