The display was simple, consisting of a few picture books arranged on a bookcase. Among them were titles like “The ABCs of a Pride Parade,” biographies of WWII codebreaker Alan Turing, “50 LGBTQ+ People Who Made History,” the sex education guide “It’s Perfectly Normal,” a recounting of the Stonewall riot, and “My Shadow Is Pink,” which explores a young boy’s gender identity.

Supervisor’s Concerns About Age-Appropriate Content

However, when Fresno County Supervisor Steve Brandau received a complaint from a constituent about the Pride Month display in the children’s section of the Clovis library, he felt compelled to investigate. Brandau expressed discomfort with the content, questioning its suitability for young readers. “I don’t like a kid going in there and seeing ‘I can choose to be a boy or girl,’” he remarked, emphasizing his belief that such material should involve parental guidance.
