Lyon : LGBT Rainbow Crosswalks Soon to be Installed
Inauguration of a Rainbow Pedestrian Intersection The City of Lyon will soon install an LGBT rainbow pedestrian intersection in the Guillotière district. This initiative, intended to be permanent, will be officially inaugurated in June 2024.
First Colored Crosswalks in the 7th Arrondissement
The 7th arrondissement of Lyon will see the installation of its first rainbow pedestrian crossings at the corner of Pasteur and Bonald streets. The inauguration ceremony will take place on Friday, June 7, 2024, marking a symbolic moment for the LGBT+ community.
A Strategic Location
Located in a small street between the Rhône swimming pool and the Saint-André T1 tram station, this colorful intersection will be unveiled the day before the Pride March, scheduled for Saturday, June 8. This strategic location highlights the city’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
A National and International Trend
Rainbow crosswalks already exist in several French cities such as Bordeaux and Paris, as well as internationally, in Brussels and New York. In 2022, Villeurbanne, in the Lyon metropolis, also installed such a crossing in the Gratte-Ciel district.
This project in Lyon demonstrates the city’s continued commitment to promoting the visibility and rights of LGBT+ people.
