Cape Clear Hosts Ireland’s First LGBT Irish-Language Festival
Ireland is set to launch its inaugural Gaeltacht for LGBTQ+ adults, taking place on Cléire (Cape Clear) off the coast of Cork from August 12 to 18.
A Unique Summer Camp Experience
Organized by Meitheal Chléire in collaboration with AerachAiteachGaelach, this week-long summer camp is tailored for LGBTQ+ individuals at all levels of Irish language proficiency. The event is also open to the local community, encouraging inclusive participation. Tickets are priced at €300, covering accommodation in a shared dormitory, which includes kitchen facilities for those who prefer to prepare their own meals. Alternatively, attendees can enjoy food at various pubs on the island.

Comprehensive Activities and Learning Opportunities
The ticket cost not only covers accommodation but also provides access to daily Irish language classes led by TG4’s Darragh Ó Caoimh and Eoin McEvoy. Participants will also have entry to a wide range of workshops and activities, such as yoga sessions with DearcánYoga or Síle Ní Bhroin, candle making, pottery, boat trips, and kayaking. Each evening will feature social events filled with singing, music, and entertainment. In their announcement, Meitheal Chléire and AerachAiteachGaelach expressed their excitement to “offer this experience to all LGBTQ+ learners, especially those who, during their youth, felt that traditional Gaeltacht camps might not have been welcoming spaces for them.”
Tickets are available on Eventbrite and are selling quickly, so prospective attendees are encouraged to act fast.
