HRC Survey: 74% of LGBTQ+ Americans Prefer Kamala Harris. Strong Voter Registration Among LGBTQ+ Adults for Upcoming Elections
According to a recent study by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, over 95% of LGBTQ+ adults in the United States are registered to vote, with 93% expressing motivation to cast their ballots in the upcoming November elections. Among them, 73% describe themselves as “highly motivated.”
Overwhelming Preference for Kamala Harris
When it comes to political preferences, LGBTQ+ voters overwhelmingly back Kamala Harris, with 74% in her favor compared to just 7.5% for Donald Trump, a margin of 67 points.
Annual LGBTQ+ Climate Survey
This data is from HRC’s 2024 annual LGBTQ+ climate survey, conducted from August 8 to 18. The study, done in collaboration with Community Marketing and Insights, surveyed over 2,400 LGBTQ+ Americans.
Diverse Political Priorities
Shoshana K. Goldberg, Director of Public Education and Research at HRC, emphasizes that LGBTQ+ voters are highly motivated and represent a powerful voting bloc. Their concerns cover a range of issues, including the economy, civil rights, and democracy.

Consistent Motivation Across Ages
Voter registration is high across all age groups, with increasing motivation among older voters. Around 81% of Gen Z voters express motivation, while 95% of those over 60 share the same drive.
Opposition to Project 2025
The study also reveals that 92% of LGBTQ+ adults are aware of Project 2025, a conservative initiative aimed at reshaping the U.S. executive branch. Over 93% of respondents view this project unfavorably, with Gen Z showing particularly strong opposition.
Key Election Concerns
The top issues motivating LGBTQ+ voters include LGBTQ+ rights legislation (51.6%), reproductive rights (46.9%), judicial reform (32.7%), and inflation/cost of living (31.4%). Project 2025 is also a concern for 27.1% of respondents.
