New Zealand Athletes Concerned About Transgender Guidelines
An Open Letter Signed by Renowned Sports Figures
More than 50 influential athletes, including former Olympic athletes, have signed an open letter calling on the New Zealand government to reconsider the rules governing transgender athletes’ participation in sports competitions.
Criticism of Current Guidelines
The letter points out that the guidelines issued by Sport New Zealand do not take into account the rights of female athletes and contradict available scientific data.

Concerns Expressed by Dave Gerrard
Dave Gerrard, a former Olympic athlete, criticizes the principle of self-identification for transgender competitors, arguing that it “ignores science” and disadvantages female athletes.
“My intention is not to exclude transgender people from sport,” he stated. “It’s simply about bringing logical thinking to the situation. How far should we allow someone to go?”
