United States Will Recognize Only Two Genders : Male and Female
An Immediate and Symbolic Decision
In his first speech after being sworn in on Monday, January 20, President Donald Trump declared that the United States will now officially recognize only “two genders, male and female.” This statement, presented as a fulfilled campaign promise, signals the beginning of a series of controversial measures directly targeting the LGBTQ+ community.
“Starting today, the official policy of the United States government will be to state that there are only two genders, male and female,” the president announced. His administration also unveiled executive orders to eliminate federal aid directed at transgender individuals. According to an anonymous official, the stated objective is to “defend women from the ideological extremism of gender theory” and to restore a strict definition of sexual identity based on birth-assigned sex.
Elimination of Recognition for Non-Binary Genders
One of the flagship measures includes the ban on using the gender marker “X” on official documents such as passports and visas. This option, introduced under Joe Biden’s administration, will no longer be available. From now on, government documents must “faithfully reflect the gender” as recorded at birth, the same official specified.

Fulfilled Campaign Promises
This offensive move is no surprise, as Donald Trump frequently made hostile statements toward the transgender community during his campaign. He notably pledged to “keep men out of women’s sports” and to put an end to what he called “transgender delusion.” In December, he announced plans to sign executive orders to ban transition-related care for minors, exclude transgender individuals from the military, and limit their access to educational institutions.
Critics argue that these announcements are part of a conservative rhetoric aiming to fuel a “moral panic” around transgender rights. Trump positions himself as a defender of traditional values in response to what he describes as ideological excesses.
Revision of Affirmative Action Policies
The president also used this occasion to announce the end of government policies that consider gender and race in public and private decision-making. “We will establish a society that does not see color but is based on merit,” he stated, signaling the abandonment of affirmative action initiatives.
