Vivian Jenna Wilson Speaks Out Against Elon Musk in Teen Vogue
An ordinary young woman, a name impossible to ignore
At 20 years old, Vivian Jenna Wilson leads a seemingly normal life. Originally from Los Angeles, she is currently studying foreign languages in Tokyo, Japan. A fan of reading, online chats with friends, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and pop singer Chappell Roan, she perfectly embodies the youth of her generation. However, her daily life is overshadowed by a heavy family legacy: Vivian is the daughter of Elon Musk, one of the wealthiest—and most controversial—men in the world. A lineage she would gladly do without. “It’s annoying that everyone associates me with him,” she confided in an interview with Teen Vogue published on March 20.
A deliberate break with Elon Musk
Vivian Jenna Wilson has made a public decision to distance herself from her father, denouncing both his views and behavior. In this in-depth interview—her second with the media, following a July 2024 conversation with CBN News—she candidly discusses the complete severing of family ties. From her university dorm room, she expresses complete disinterest in her father while reacting strongly to his recent controversies: “The Nazi salute—that was absolutely batshit insane. Let’s call it what it is: that shit was definitely a Nazi salute. Other than that, I couldn’t care less about him.”
A name change to mark her emancipation
Vivian’s break with Elon Musk didn’t happen overnight. Since coming out as transgender in 2020, she claims to have been disowned by her father. At the time, he stated: “My son is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.” To cut ties, she chose in 2022 to take her mother’s name, Justine Wilson, and says she hasn’t spoken to Elon Musk in nearly five years. “Thank God,” she adds. She also insists on her independence: “I’ve never made a dime off being famous. Zero dollars, zero cents.” When asked whether her father’s wealth intimidates her, she responds bluntly: “He’s a big pathetic baby. Why should I be scared of him?”

Provocative remarks and growing tensions
Ironically, on the same day the interview was published, Elon Musk shared a post on X accusing transgender or non-binary individuals of being responsible for most vandalism against Tesla cars. He added this inflammatory comment: “The likelihood that a trans person is violent seems much higher than that of a non-trans person.”
An almost total family break
The rift between Vivian and her paternal family is so deep that she admits she barely knows her siblings—born from three different relationships. “I don’t even really know how many siblings I have,” she confesses. She only remembers meeting “X,” Elon Musk’s young child, once during a public appearance at the White House. “I don’t keep in touch with that side of the family because… I just don’t. Neither does my mom. She’s divorced. So I don’t give a damn what they’re doing. It’s not my problem,” she states.
A scathing critique of the Trump administration
Vivian Jenna Wilson’s criticism doesn’t stop at her father. She expresses deep concern about the political direction of the United States since Donald Trump’s return to power. The anti-trans laws affect her directly: “As a transgender woman, I’m terrified of losing access to my medical care.” She broadens her critique: “What they’re doing is awful—not just to the trans community, but also to migrants, communities of color, and so many other marginalized groups systematically targeted by the new administration.”
A message of hope despite the pain
During the interview, Vivian doesn’t hide her emotions. She breaks into tears briefly when talking about the vital role of her friends and the support from her loved ones. Then, with strength, she delivers a message to those who follow her: “Don’t let other people’s perceptions affect your own. Don’t be afraid to be yourself.”
