Several Ambushes Reported in April
In Dijon, multiple assaults characterized by homophobia have again been recorded near Lake Kir this April. This area, known for years as a meeting spot for men, continues to be plagued by violent acts targeting gay individuals.
A few weeks after Aurore Bergé’s visit to Dijon to introduce measures aimed at combating violence against homosexuals on dating apps, three new incidents were reported in the latter half of the month, according to France 3 Bourgogne.
A 57-Year-Old Man Brutally Attacked
The first publicly disclosed incident involved a 57-year-old man. Visiting the Burgundian capital, he had discovered online that cruising was possible near Lake Kir.
A police source cited by the regional channel reported that the man was lured near a bush, where he was confronted by three young individuals. For about ten minutes, the victim endured both physical assaults and homophobic slurs. The attackers attempted to steal his belongings but failed.
The public prosecutor has opened an investigation for acts of violence committed due to the victim’s sexual orientation.
Grindr Meetups Leading to More Assaults
Two additional investigations have been launched following similar incidents in April. In these cases, victims were allegedly ensnared after setting up meetings on a dating app.
The Aides Dijon association claims to have received multiple reports detailing further recent attacks related to encounters organized via Grindr.
Lake Kir Regularly Affected by Violence
As of now, the authorities have not announced any arrests. The areas surrounding Lake Kir remain sensitive in the Dijon region. For several years, this space has been associated with a series of homophobic assaults, sometimes extremely violent.
Despite repeated warnings from associations and preventive measures, authorities still struggle to curb these persistent acts of violence.
