France : Free STI Screening for Under 26s and 100% Coverage

From this date, STI screening will be fully covered by health insurance for individuals under 26, without the need for a prescription. For the rest of the population, coverage will be at 60%, with the remaining portion covered by responsible complementary health insurance. This program, called “My STI Test,” will be available in all medical biology laboratories.

Screening Process and Infections Covered

During the visit, patients will complete a self-questionnaire to determine which infections should be tested. In addition to HIV, the test will cover chlamydia trachomatis, gonorrhea, syphilis, and hepatitis B. If the test results indicate the presence of one or more infections, the medical biologist will refer the patients to appropriate healthcare professionals.

A Measure Aligned with Health Recommendations

This new initiative is based on the recommendations of the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS). A public awareness campaign, led by the National Health Insurance Fund (Cnam), will also be launched to inform the healthcare professionals involved.

An Important Step in the Fight Against STIs

The Ministry of Health describes this initiative as a “significant advancement” in the fight against sexually transmitted infections, emphasizing that it is part of a broader effort to promote sexual health for the entire population.
